SARS Expedited Tax Debt Compromise
R&V Accountants Announces Support for Expedited Debt Compromise Process
At R&V Accountants, we are committed to providing our clients with the latest updates and support in navigating tax compliance and debt resolution. Following our recent training session held on 16 October 2025, we are pleased to inform you that we can now assist you with the new Expedited Debt Compromise process introduced by SARS.
Understanding the Expedited Compromise Initiative
During a constructive engagement with SARS on 27 August 2025, Revenue Service officials highlighted their efforts to promote voluntary compliance and reduce outstanding tax debts. SARS emphasised the importance of collaboration with Recognised Controlling Bodies (RCBs) and tax practitioners to achieve this goal. A significant aspect of this initiative is the introduction of the Expedited Compromise Process, designed to assist taxpayers who have been making partial payments but have not fully settled their debts.
Who Qualifies for the Expedited Compromise?
The process targets taxpayers who meet certain criteria, including:
– Debts older than 12 months
– Debts not currently in dispute (or disputes withdrawn)
– No insolvency or deceased status
– Not in the final stages of deregistration with the Companies and Intellectual Property Commission (CIPC)
– No fraud involved in the origin of the debt
– No ongoing suspension of the debt
– No temporary write-offs involving compromises or business rescue
This process aims to help taxpayers who are compliant in terms of payments but need assistance in settling their debts more effectively.
How Does the Process Work?
Phase 1 of the initiative is specifically linked to taxpayers associated with tax practitioners. Here’s what you need to know:
SARS will send lists of eligible taxpayers to their respective tax practitioners.
Tax practitioners must advise their clients about the campaign and identify those willing to participate.
Interested practitioners and clients can submit an expression of interest via the dedicated email: Compromisecampaign@sars.gov.za starting from 15 September 2025.
The formal application window opens from 13 October 2025 to 31 December 2025.
Applicants can opt for full payment or instalments spanning no more than six months.
SARS commits to resolving qualifying applications within four weeks.
Post-application, SARS intends to accelerate legal recovery actions, including issuing civil judgments and writs of execution, for non-compliant cases.
